The Rooftop Collective is quickly becoming one of the most highly anticipated bands in the local music scene. Revolving around lead-singer and songwriter Edward Waaka, the 8-piece crew of guitarists, horn players, keyboardists and drummers come together to create a sound that is truly unique. While the group has only been together for a matter of months, with each performance their momentum grows, and they have been receiving rave reviews from industry figures and artists alike.
With a distinct New Zealand sound that reflects Aotearoa's musical and geographical landscape, the group also brings something new to the scene. Technically and aesthetically pleasing, their music pays homage to a wide range of genres including soul, funk, reggae/dub, and electronica, encompassing the subtle complexities, which make it sophisticated, intelligent and emotive, helping the group to connect with their audience on many different levels.
The band's explosive ability to shift the atmosphere throughout a set displays their collective musicianship and on stage chemistry. With over five years experience in writing and performing music as a solo artist, Waaka is backed by seasoned musicians from bands like The Crates, Kinghit and Cold By Winter. With more shows lined up for the summer, the group are setting their sights on a nationwide tour to promote their new and infectious brand of locally produced music.
