Taylor’s sound is like the charming sort of hope that emerges from the dark corner of the room, confronting and at times downright disturbing, yet catchy and infectious.
The release of Taylor’s debut full-length album Warmer in July 2010 coincided with a successful tour of the east coast. The organic album included alluring yet disarmingly haunting songs, captured in places as far afield as a farmhouse in southern England and the muddy tracks of Vietnam, to Amsterdam and Osaka, and were finally recorded in a water tank tucked away in the hills of Northern NSW. The unconventional location proved an ideal melting pot and the band enlisted the craftsmanship of Engineer/Producer Govinda Doyle (Angus & Julia Stone) to blend the vintage tones, classic narrative and distinct modern pop sensibility of Taylor’s dynamic band. For the creation of Taylor’s second studio album, he once again assembled his multi talented band of musicians to lay down the musical mood that would match his brutally honest lyric. However, Taylor took a different approach to his second album, straying from the previous organic nature of Warmer, Taylor admits that his second album To Bed with You provides a more “polished and produced sound – in a good way”. Taylor recorded the album on home turf at Love Street Studios and released the album in June 2013 on the Gold Coast. In contrast to Taylor’s first album, To Bed with You seems to encapsulate a singular time, an album of the mind, anxious and heavily infected. It is an intimate affair, which includes his signature moments of humour and joy, but overall, it is deliciously dark.
