INTERVIEW AND SESSION FILMED FOR BALCONY TV LONDON
PRESENTED BY IVAN BERRY
PRODUCED BY VIDEO-BOX
Fresh from a seven date UK tour with Ray Davies and hyped from being called "fucking brilliant" by the Kinks front man himself, Samuel Brookes is busy working on his debut album, due for release through Helium Records in 2011.
When Samuel and his previous band The Volt triumphed as winners of MTV's 2008 Get Seen Get Heard talent contest, the quality of Samuel's song writing was instantly recognised by the contests judging panel. Clocking up valuable experience with studio sessions, live performances, on-line and TV exposure, the band went on to play key venues including five slots at last year's Glastonbury Festival. Samuel has now gone on to establish a solo career and claim his position with-in the circle of new generation of folk artists.
With all this experience behind him, Samuel is already an accomplished musician and performer with an emerging depth and maturity that increasingly shows in his writing. His finely crafted songs, immaculate phrasing and beautifully modulated delivery reach easily beneath the skin of his audience. The magical space he creates and the elasticity of his writing and playing have the echoes and jazz arches of giants like John Martyn and Tim Buckley who he includes as one of his influences along with Scott Matthews, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor and Laura Marling.
Samuel has also been gigging extensively, most recently playing venues such at The Old Queens Head, East London's Rag Factory and The Luminaire.
