PRESENTED BY KATIE WARNER
The calypso groove and tongue-in-cheek lyrical wit of "The Lonely Dreamer" is taking NY singer/songwriter Matt Sucich in a new direction. The song itself, with instrumental cues from modern influences like Vampire Weekend and Lord Huron, was recorded live to tape in Brooklyn at Five and Dime Recording Society with producer/engineer Paul Loren. "The Lonely Dreamer" is the first studio release for the often self-produced musician and after years of home recordings, Matt and his band have finally managed to capture the live energy they've been bringing to the stage.

Matt Sucich (pron: Sue-Sitch) is from Astoria, Queens. He writes songs. He plays them with a guitar. He sings them with his voice. Sometimes he sleeps, but most times he's awake. You can find Matt in New York City, or other places, and that was most definitely the case in 2013 while touring behind his 2012 full-length record, "Layers." Among many other stops, Matt appeared at Firefly Music Festival in Dover, DE., & Newport Folk Festival (a private event for NPR Music with The Lone Bellow.) He also made time to co-create a special event with Lincoln Center's David Rubenstein Atrium & Rockwood Music Hall hosted by WFUV 90.7, performing alongside Rachael Yamagata, Lake Street Dive, and Akie Bermiss with Lynette Williams.
Rewind a little further:
In 2012 Matt debuted at Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in Manchester, TN, receiving high praise and pleasant comparisons from Andy Langer (Esquire Magazine/KGSR Austin, TX.) on his "Best Other Bands Of Bonnaroo" list:
"Because this Queens singer-songwriter is trying to break your heart. What appear at first glance to be simple love songs quickly reveal a Wilco- and Iron & Wine-like depth (and desperation)."
The list put Sucich in esteemed company, alongside Michael Kiwanuka, Trixie Whitley, and many others. In addition, Matt performed at both SXSW & CMJ, which featured a set at JetBlue's "Live at T5″ concert series.
If you're thinking this is some "flash-in-the-pan" story it's more like a simmer, and Matt plans on keeping it that way. As a songwriter Matt Sucich took his time developing a style and sound that, like any artist, may borrow from a wealth of influence but is distinctively his own. Early influences ranging from Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, & Bruce Springsteen to M. Ward and My Morning Jacket. Although he began cementing his place in the NYC music scene in 2010 with a sold-out show at Joe's Pub, it was the years prior that Matt spent cutting his teeth. Performing with friends & various bands at venues like The Living Room, The Bowery Electric and Southpaw, and in 2009 supporting the legendary Levon Helm at his Midnight Ramble in Woodstock, NY.
