PRESENTED BY MASON HOPE
Influenced by musical greats like Astrud Gilberto, Anita ODay, Ella Fitzgerald, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Erykah Badu and Emily King, her music is elegant, sophisticated, and as innocent and welcoming as Spring.
Angela was born in Japan to a rock star father so music was always going to be in her genes. She was given a baby grand piano at age three and immediately began playing all her known nursery songs. At age five Angela began an education in classical piano which she continued for 12 years. But it wasn't until she was living in Hawaii many years later that she debuted her singing voice at the Honolulu Jazz Loft.
After moving back to Australia in 2004 Angela began playing regular jazz gigs around south east Queensland with many marvellous musicians. Notably John Hoffman, Jamie Clarke, Steve Newcomb, John Reeves, Oj Newcomb and Sean Flynn.
In 2009 Angela formed a Duo called "Angie and Oj" with Oj Newcomb (Angela on guitar and vocals and Oj on double bass) playing an eclectic mix of Angela's originals, Jazz and Brazilian standards and some good old Soul. That year she also toured with Afro Dizzi Act on their "Peace, Love and Unity" national album launch tour.
In 2010, she featured on several original songs written for the Transparentsea film as well as singing backing vocals for The Band of Frequencies at Woodford Folk Festival.
After a 6 year maternity leave, Angela is now playing solo gigs as well as backing vocals and ukulele for Andrea Kirwin. She plans to record a solo album in the near future.
