http://www.hauteroute.org Following yesterday's iconic Alpe d'Huez Individual Time Trial, the 600 riders from around the world were ready to get back into the traditional Haute Route Alpine climbs. Stage 5 included four ascents, more than any other previous stages. See the emotion of the Haute Route riders as they battle against 7 days of climbing.
http://www.hauteroute.org Stage 4 of the Haute Route saw 600 riders take on the iconic Alpe d'Huez Individual Time Trial, following in the footsteps of some of the world's greatest cycling heroes. The diversity of the peloton was clearly apparent as each rider mounted the ramp for the only downhill part of today's stage for a rolling start across the line. Alpe d'Huez from Bourg d'Oisans is arguably the most iconic climb in cycling history, with a 15km course climbing 1100m.
http://www.hauteroute.org Stage 3 from Courchevel to Alpe d'Huez, the marathon stage, with a 5 out of 5 difficulty rating, was the stage many of the riders most feared and dreaded, and they were right to be apprehensive. Many of the 600 riders had never taken on anything like today before, let alone after two hard days of racing: "I was really scared," said Pascale Legrand of Canada. "I've never done 4,700m of climbing before." The legendary Col de la Madeleine and Col du Glandon tested them to the limit combining 4,700m of ascent under intense heat, faced with the final very demanding climb to Alpe d'Huez. "It was a long day in the saddle, nearly 6 hours for me," said Stephen Blake from South Africa. "The Glandon was brutal."
